This document was prepared to provide every scripture where a healing miracle took place, or where a prayer was prayed, or a blessing declared for healing. It contains all the biblical entries of “heal,” healed,” “healing,” “cure,” and “cured.” However, it contains only a few entries of “clean” or “cleansed” because to be made clean or cleansed was/is a common biblical practice for healing, both physically and spiritually, but to be “made clean” includes much wider definitions of ritual purity in worship, the removal of sin, and deliverance from demons, so it was not a focus for this document. However, it is important for believers to know that being “made clean” includes being cleansed of sin, being delivered of demons, and walking in purity, and these very often result in physical, spiritual, and/or emotional healing. While we live in a broken world, Scripture is clear, demons and sin are a major cause of sickness, pain, and disease so getting “clean” often results in healing.
Jesus said satan and his hoards come only to “steal, kill, and destroy,” they indiscriminately push all manner of brokenness BUT Jesus came so that we “might have life, and life more abundantly” (John 10:10, NKJV). Abundant life in the Greek, zoe, means to be fully saved, fully healed, fully delivered, fully protected, fully provided for, and eternally secure. Zoe is the intimate sharing in the life of Jesus, and having a capacity that continually grows with more faith and revelation, so that we continually grow in our relationship with Jesus and go from strength to strength until we see Him face to face (Eph 1:17; Ps 84:7).
The arrival of the Kingdom of God with Jesus coming into the world in human flesh began the overthrow of the enemy’s kingdom. The life Jesus lived and demonstrated signalled the beginning of the end for satan and his hoards. Jesus’ death and resurrection was THE death blow to the enemy kingdom. After His resurrection, before He ascended to Heaven, Jesus told the disciples, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in My Name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:15-18).
Healing is both God’s kindness toward us, He loves us and wants us free, and it is a sign to those who do not yet believe… “These signs will accompany those who believe: in My Name… they will cast out demons… they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” The sign of healing shows Jesus’ Kingdom is here, His power is real, and the enemy cannot overcome it. The Cross and resurrection was a complete work. It annihilated the power of the sin and death, and the power of the enemy, so much so that Paul referred to satan and his hoards as, “weak and miserable forces” (Gal 4:9).
As born again, Spirit-baptized believers in Jesus Christ, we have become co-workers, participators with Jesus in seeing His kingdom advance (Rom 6:3-4; 1Cor 3:9; 2Cor 5:18, 6:1; Eph 6:6; Phil 1:5). Healings, signs, wonders, and miracles, all these advance the Kingdom of God, and as we do our part, the enemy kingdom is dismantled and comes toppling down.
Get good with Jesus saying, “Truly… whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father…” (John 14:12). We bring honor and glory to Jesus by stepping into the greater things. Jesus said, “All things are possible for the one who believes” (Mark 9:23), and to this we can reply, “I believe, help my unbelief” (9:24) —this is the surrender of any hardhearted unbelief or doubt, and the ask for greater faith.
All Scripture is from the ESV unless otherwise stated. You may notice some Scripture is exact quotation, while others maybe a shortened parapharse to include the longer narrative for context, with the exact quotes from either the prayer prayed, or the result of the prayer. This is given to you so you can fill your heart with Scripture for healing. It will help to renew your mind and it will build your faith.
OLD TESTAMENT HEALING VERSES:
Exod 15:26 “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in His eyes, and give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your Healer.”
1Sam 25:6 Pronounce a blessing: “Say to him: ‘Long life to you! Good health to you and your household! And good health to all that is yours!”
2Kings 4:8-37 (Narrative, Elisha and the Shunammite Woman, narrative:) A Shunnamite woman provided food and shelter for Elisha. The shelter was a permanent addition to the family home. She was the wife of a wealthy man, and they had no children of their own, the woman was barren. Elisha, seeking a blessing for the woman from God, prophesied that she would have a son. One year later, she did. One day, when the child had grown older and was working in the fields with his father he became sick. He was taken to his mother and died in her arms. Without hesitation, she took him to Elisha’s room, lay him on his bed, and went out looking for him. Elisha returned to her home and when “he saw the child lying dead on his bed… he went in and shut the door… and prayed to the Lord. Then he went up and lay on the child, putting his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. And as he stretched himself upon him, the flesh of the child became warm” (4:32-34). Elisha continued praying in the house and once again “stretched himself upon him. The child sneezed seven times, and then the child opened his eyes (4:35). The Shunnamite came in, and thanking Elisha, took her son who had been raised from the dead. This is a story of the woman’s faith. She received a prophetic promise, and then stood on that promise. She did not come under fear nor allow the enemy to steal what God had given her.
2Kings 5:1-14 (Narrative:) Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with many victories, but he had leprosy. He was told there was a prophet who could heal in Israel, Elisha. Naaman went to Israel in search of Elisha. Elisha gave Naaman specific instructions, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean” (5:10). The instructions were a prophetic act of obedience. Naaman left Elisha angry and complaining about the instructions, they were beneath a high commander. (Anger and complaining are manifestations of pride, unbelief, skepticism, unwillingness to obey God, or a lack of humility.) Naaman’s servants encouraged him to obey the prophet and Naaman relented. He “went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean” (5:14). Naaman was healed after obeying the prophet. This is an exmaple of a prophetic act. Our obedience to the voice of the Lord often results in physical healing.
2Chron 7:14 “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
2Chron 28:15 To anoint with oil was and ancient healing practice: “dressed their wounds with olive oil” (NLT); or “provided… healing balm” (NIV). We can anoint the sick with oil as we pray and know that the presence of the Holy Spirit is His anointing, and His presence is also His power to heal. Our healing balm is from His presence. The Holy Spirit is within us and can heal any/every wound.
Psalm 6:2 “Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled” (ESV). Or, “Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony” (NIV). Other versions use, “have compassion” or “be gracious.”
Psalm 30:2 “Lord my God, I called to You for help, and you healed me” (NIV).
Psalm 41:3 “The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness You restore him to full health.”
Psalm 103:1-5 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Psalm 107:19-21 “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction. Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love, for His wondrous works to the children of man!”
Psalm 147:1-3 “Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Prov 3:7-8 “Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” The NKJV, “it will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”
Prov 4:20-22 “My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to My words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body” (NIV). The ESV, “healing to all their flesh.”
Prov 12:18 “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing” (NIV).
Prov 13:17 “A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a faithful envoy brings healing.”
Prov 15:30 “The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes the bones.” Or NKJV, “The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and a good report makes the bones healthy.”
Prov 16:24 “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”
Isa 53:4-5 (Isaiah prophesying of Jesus…) “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.” NKJV 53:5, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”
Jer 8:22 “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored? (the prophet is asking the question rhetorically, because yes! Jesus is our physician, He has become our healing balm.)
Jer 17:14 “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.”
Jer 30:17 “I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord…”
Jer 33:6 “Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.”
Mal 4:2 “But for you who fear My Name, the Sun of Righteousness shall rise with healing in His wings. And you will go free, leaping like calves, let out to pasture” (NLT).
NEW TESTAMENT HEALING VERSES:
Matt 4:23-24 “(Jesus) went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people… they brought Him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and He healed them.”
Matt 6:9-10 “Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.”
*There is no sickness or disease, no pain or brokenness in Heaven
Matt 7:7-11 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in Heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
*We have to ask and keep on asking, until we see breakthrough or get the miracle.
Matt 8:2-3 “And behold, a leper came to Him and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, if You will, You can make me clean.’ And Jesus stretched out His hand and touched Him, saying, ‘I will; be clean.’ And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”
* “touched” here is translated from hepsato, and is the same haptomai which means “to touch,” or “take hold of,” particularly in the intimate sense, being touched by Jesus was to have been divinely influenced by Him. Haptomai is used to express blessing, healing, spiritual impartation, and to have been made clean. Its Greek root is hapto which means to be changed or altered after being touched, touching that altars or modifies, or impact touching.
Matt 8:5-10, 13 (A Centurion understood authority) “When He had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to Him, appealing to Him, ‘Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.’ And He said to him, ‘I will come and heal him.’ But the centurion replied, ‘Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who followed him, ‘Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith… And to the centurion Jesus said, ‘Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.’ And the servant was healed at that very moment.”
Matt 8:14-17 “When Jesus entered Peter’s house, He saw (Peter’s) mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. That evening they brought to Him many who were oppressed by demons, and He cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”
Matt 9:2, 6-7 “Behold, some people brought to Him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Take heart, My son, your sins are forgiven’ …. He then said to the paralytic, ‘Rise, pick up your bed and go home.’ And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.”
Matt 9:20-22 “Behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind (Jesus) and touched the fringe of His garment, for she said to herself, ‘If I only touch His garment, I will be made well.’ Jesus turned, and seeing her He said, ‘Take heart, daughter, your faith has made you well.’ And instantly the woman was made well.”
Matt 9:18, 23-25 “Behold, a ruler came in and knelt before (Jesus), saying, ‘My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live’ …. And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, He said, ‘Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.’ And they laughed at Him. But when the crowd had been put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.” Or, “got up,” as in “rose up” from the dead (NIV).
Matt 9:27-30 “As Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying aloud, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David.’ When He entered the house, the blind men came to Him, and Jesus said to them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ They said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord.’ Then He touched their eyes, saying, ‘According to your faith be it done to you.’ And their eyes were opened…”
Matt 9:32-33 “Behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to (Jesus). And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke.”
Mark 11:22-24 “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
*The literal Greek translation can be read: “have the faith of God,” or “possess the faith of God.” Jesus is asking us to eradicate all doubt and step out in all boldness to pray for mircales.
Matt 10:1, 7-8 “And He called to Him His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction… proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay…’”
Matt 12:9 “Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they (religious leaders) asked Him, saying, ‘Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?’ —that they might accuse Him. Then He said to them, ‘What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.’ Then He said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other.”
Matt 12:22 “Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw.”

Matt 13:34 “(Jesus and His disciples) came to land at Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent around to all that region and brought to Him all who were sick and implored Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment. And as many as touched it were made well.”
Matt 15:30-31 “Great crowds came to Him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at His feet, and He healed them, so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.”
Matt 17:14-20 “A man came up to (Jesus) and, kneeling before Him, said, ‘Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not heal him.’ And Jesus answered, ‘O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.’ And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, ‘Why could we not cast it out?’ He said to them, ‘Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.’”
Matt 19:1-2 “(Jesus) left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.”
Matt 20:29-34 “As they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him. And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, ‘Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!’ The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, ‘Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!’ And stopping, Jesus called them and said, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’ They said to Him, ‘Lord, let our eyes be opened.’ And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed Him.
Matt 21:12-14 “Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, ‘It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.’ And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and he healed them.”
Mark 1:29 “(Jesus) entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told Him about her. And He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.”

Mark 2:2-12 (Narrative) Jesus was preaching in a crowded home. People had packed into the home and there was no more room, not even at the door. Four men carried a paralytic man to Jesus but to get to Jesus, they had to make a hole in the roof to lower the man to the feet of Jesus. Jesus saw their faith and said the man, “Son, your sins are forgiven” (2:5). This enraged the religious leaders. Knowing their thoughts, Jesus responded, “ Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins’—he said to the paralytic— ‘I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home” (5:9-11). The man got up, picked up his bed, and went home, fully healed.
Mark 3:1 “Again He entered the synagogue, and a man was there with a withered hand. And (the religious leaders) watched Jesus, to see whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. And He said to the man with the withered hand, ‘Come here.’ And He said to (the religious leaders), ‘Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?’ But they were silent. And He looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.”
Mark 3:10 “Great crowds sought Jesus out and followed Him everywhere, “for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him.”

And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, ‘If I touch even His garments, I will be made well.’ And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in Himself that power had gone out from Him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, ‘Who touched my garments?’ And His disciples said to Him, ‘You see the crowd pressing around You, and yet You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ And He looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.’”
Mark 5:23-24a, 35-43 (Raising the little girl to life) “Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing Him, he fell at His feet and implored Him earnestly, saying, ‘My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.’ And He went with him (though they were delayed) …. there came from the ruler’s house some who said, ‘Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?’ But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, ‘Do not fear, only believe.’ And He allowed no one to follow Him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. And when He had entered, He said to them, ‘Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.’ And they laughed at Him. But He put them all outside and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with Him and went in where the child was. Taking her by the hand He said to her, ‘Talitha cumi,’ which means, ‘Little girl, I say to you, arise.’ And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement. And He strictly charged them that no one should know this and told them to give her something to eat.”
Mark 6:7, 12-13 Jesus “called the twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over the unclean spirits …. So, they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.”
*This is before they were born-again, Spirit-baptized believers!!!
Mark 6:54-56 “People immediately recognized (Jesus) and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard He was. And as many as touched it were made well.”
Mark 7:32-37 “They brought to Him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged Him to lay his hand on Him. And taking him aside from the crowd privately, He put His fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. And looking up to heaven, He sighed and said to him, ‘Ephphatha,’ that is, ‘Be opened.’ And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more He charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, ‘He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.’”
Mark 8:22-25 “And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to (Jesus) a blind man and begged Him to touch him. And He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when He had spit on his eyes and laid His hands on him, He asked him, ‘Do you see anything?’ And he looked up and said, ‘I see people, but they look like trees, walking.’ Then Jesus laid His hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.”
*We keep praying until we see the results!
Mark 9:14-29 (Prayer and fasting for deliverance and healing narrative:) Jesus, Peter, James, and John were returning from the Transfiguration. A large crowd had gathered around the other disciples and religious leaders were arguing with them. The crowd ran to meet Jesus. A man from the crowd spoke up explaining his son’s demon possession: deafness, muteness, violent episodes, convulsions, not-so-random accidents, teeth grinding, foaming at the mouth, catatonic episodes, and he said, “I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able” (9:18). Jesus called them a faithless generation. When the demon in the boy saw Jesus it began manifesting immediately. The father, now desperate, asked “If you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us” (9:22). Jesus said, “‘All things are possible for one who believes.’ Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, ‘I believe, help my unbelief!’” (9:23-24) Jesus rebuked the demon saying, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again” (9:25). The demon left and the boy stayed very still, people thought he had died, but Jesus took him by the hand and stood him on his feet. Later, Jesus’ disciples asked Him why they couldn’t cats it out, Jesus replied with, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting” (9:29).
*Some Greek manuscripts do no include fasting.
**This story is necessary for our understanding how important our intimacy with the Lord is. There are no short cuts to friendship with the Lord, it is time in prayer.
Mark 10:46-52 (Bartimaeus Narrative:) Jesus was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a great crowd followed Him and Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, sat by the roadside. Bartimaeus heard Jesus was coming and began to cry out to Jesus, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (10:47) many in the crowd rebuked him but he only cried out louder. Jesus stopped the crowd and said, “‘Call him.’ And they called the blind man, saying to him, ‘Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.’ And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’ And the blind man said to Him, ‘Rabbi, let me recover my sight.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Go your way; your faith has made you well.’ And immediately he recovered his sight and followed Him on the way” (10:49-52).
Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Luke 4:38-40 Jesus healed Simon’s mother in law who was “suffering from a high fever” (4:38). Jesus simply “rebuked the fever, and it left her” (4:39). Later that same day, people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them” (4:40).
Luke 5:12 “While (Jesus) was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, ‘Lord, if You will, You can make me clean.’ And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, ‘I will. Be clean.’ And immediately the leprosy left him.”
Luke 5:17-26 (Narrative, also see: Mark 2:2-12) One day when Jesus was teaching, “Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Him to heal” (5:17). Some men brought a man who was paralyzed but they couldn’t get to Jesus because of the crowd, so they cut through the roof of the house to lower the man down before Jesus. Seeing the faith in these men, Jesus said, “Your sins are forgiven…” 5:20). As the religious leaders questioned Jesus, He perceived their thoughts and answered, “Why do you question in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home” (5:22-24). The man was instantly healed. He stood up, picked up his bed, and went home. Everyone who witnessed the extraordinary miracle was filled with awe and praised God.
Luke 6:6-11 One “Sabbath… a man was there whose right hand was withered. 7 So the scribes and Pharisees watched (Jesus) closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him. But He knew their thoughts and said to the man who had the withered hand, ‘Arise and stand here.’ And he arose and stood. Then Jesus said to them, ‘I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?’ And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. 11 But (the religious leaders) were filled with rage and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.”
Luke 6:17-19 Jesus stood, “with a great crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem… who came to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd sought to touch Him, for power came out from Him and healed them all.”
Luke 7:2-9 “A centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly, saying, ‘He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation, and he is the one who built us our synagogue.” And Jesus went with them. When (Jesus) was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to Him, ‘Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You come under my roof… But say the word, and let my servant be healed. For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.’ When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at (the centurion), and turning to the crowd that followed Him, said, ‘I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.”
Luke 7:11-15 “(Jesus) went to a town called Nain, His disciples and a great crowd went with Him. As He drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, ‘Do not weep.’ Then He came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And He said, ‘Young man, I say to you, arise.’ And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.”
Luke 7:18-23 While John the Baptist was in a jail cell in Herod’s palace (3:20), many reports of Jesus’ ministry where being brought to John by John’s own disciples. While in the jail cell, John had grown despondent and doubted who Jesus was and from the jail cell, he sent two of his disciples to ask Jesus “Are You the one who was to come? Or should we look for another? (7:19)” In front of John’s disciples, Jesus “healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind He bestowed sight. And He answered them, ‘Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them’” (7:21-23).
*This was a direct answer to John about who Jesus was/is, but more, Jesus redefined for John that the Kingdom of God was a spiritual kingdom, not an earthly one.
Luke 8:42-48 (Woman with the issue of blood, see also Mark 5:24-34) “… As Jesus went, the people pressed around Him. And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. She came up behind (Jesus) and touched the fringe of His garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. And Jesus said, ‘Who was it that touched Me?’ When all denied it, Peter said, ‘Master, the crowds surround You and are pressing in on You!’ But Jesus said, ‘Someone touched Me, for I perceive that power has gone out from Me.’ And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before Him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched Him, and how she had been immediately healed. And He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.’”
Luke 8:40-55 (Narrative: Jairus’ daughter raised from the dead, see also Mark 5:23-43) Again a large crowd was following Jesus and while He was teaching them, Jairus, a synagogue ruler, approached Jesus asking Him to come to his house to pray for his sick daughter because she was dying. Jesus agreed to go with Jairus and started for Jairus’ house; Jesus and the whole crowd. On their way, Jesus stopped to minister to the lady with the issue of blood. While Jesus was ministering to the lady, news reached Jairus that his little daughter had died. Jesus responded to this with: “Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well (8:51),” and they continued to Jairus’ house. At the house, the whole crowd knew she had died. Many were weeping and wailing. Jesus took only Peter, John, James, Jairus and his wife into the room where the child was. All the skeptics, critics, and faithless were shut outside. In the room, Jesus took the little girl by the hand saying, “Child, arise (8:54).” Immediately “her spirit returned, and she got up… and Jesus directed that something should be given her to eat” (8:55).
Luke 9:11 Jesus tried to get away with His disciples but, “when the crowds learned it, they followed Him, and He welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing.”
Luke 9:37-43 (See also Mark 9:14-29) After the Transfiguration, “when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met (Jesus). And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, ‘Teacher, I beg you to look at my son… a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him so that he foams at the mouth, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him. And I begged Your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.’ Jesus answered, ‘O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.’ While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy and gave him back to his father. And all were astonished at the majesty of God.”
Luke 10:8-9 (Instructions to the 72) “Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’”
*The 72 disciples were not yet born again, not yet filled with the Holy Spirit, how much more access and power do we have now in the New Covenant.
Luke 11:9-10 (Same as Matt 7:7-11) “I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
*We have to ask and keep on asking, until we see breakthrough or get the miracle.
Luke 13:10-13 (A woman with a disabling spirit) “Now (Jesus) was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, ‘Woman, you are freed from your disability.’ And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.”
Luke 14:1-6 “One Sabbath, when (Jesus) went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching Him carefully. And behold, there was a man before Him who had dropsy. And Jesus responded to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, ‘Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?’ But they remained silent. Then (Jesus) took him and healed him and sent him away. And He said to (the Pharisees), “Which of you, having a son or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?’ And they could not reply to these things.”
Luke 17:11-19 “On the way to Jerusalem (Jesus) was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as He entered a village, He was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.’ When He saw them He said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving Him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, ‘Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’ And (Jesus) said to him, ᾽Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.’”
*Gratitude/Thankfulness
Luke 18:35-43 (Bartimaeus, see also Mark 10:46-52) “As (Jesus) drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, ‘Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.’ And he cried out, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’ And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he came near, He asked him, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’ He said, ‘Lord, let me recover my sight.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.’ And immediately he recovered his sight and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.”
Luke 22:50-51 When guards came to take Jesus, one of His disciples “struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. But Jesus said, ‘No more of this!’ And He touched his ear and healed him.”
* “touched” here is translated from hapsamenos, it means “having touched,” a past tense action that has a result—the man was healed. Hapsamenos is from haptomai which means “to touch,” or “take hold of,” particularly in the intimate sense, being touched by Jesus was to have been divinely influenced by Him. Haptomai is used to express blessing, healing, spiritual impartation, and to have been made clean. Its Greek root is hapto which means to be changed or altered after being touched, touching that altars or modifies, or impact touching. A similar entry for these Greek words is found at Matt 8:2-3, deliberately, because “touch” is the laying on of hands. There is a dynamic and powerful transaction that takes place through the Holy Spirit when we lay hands on the sick.
John 4:46-53 “Jesus came again to Cana in Galilee, where… there was an official whose son was ill. When this man heard that Jesus had come… he went to Him and asked Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. So Jesus said to him, ‘Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.’ The official said to him, ‘Sir, come down before my child dies.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your son will live.’ The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. 51 As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, ‘Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.’ The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, ‘Your son will live.’ And he himself believed, and all his household.”
John 5:1-17 “Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, ‘Do you want to be healed?’ The sick man answered him, ‘Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Get up, take up your bed, and walk.’ And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath …. And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, ‘My Father is working until now, and I am working.’”
John 6:2 “A large crowd was following (Jesus), because they saw the signs He was doing on the sick.”
*John refers to miracles as “signs,” because they are a signpost pointing to the Miracle Worker and not an end in themselves.
John 9:1- 5 (Jesus makes mud/clay…) “(Jesus) saw a man blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.’ Having said these things, He spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then He anointed the man’s eyes with the mud and said to him, ‘Go, wash in the pool of Siloam’ (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.”
*Jesus made mud, or clay, from the very material Adam was formed with in Gen. 2:7.
John 11:1-44 (Narrative, Raising Lazarus from the dead:) Jesus was informed of Lazarus being ill and yet took four days to go to visit him, saying on one of those days, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die (11:25-26). In part, Jesus waited because a tension was developing in His own followers, faith was being realized, He was provoking their faith (11:4, 11, 15, 26). He knew this miracle would result in great glory (11:4, 40). On the fourth day, when He reached the tomb, Jesus was deeply moved, and asked for the stone to be rolled away from the entrance. The “Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, ‘Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 I knew that You always hear Me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that You sent Me.’ When He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out.’ The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, ‘Unbind him, and let him go’ (41-44).”
John 14:12-14 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in My Name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My Name, I will do it.
*Every miracle Jesus did was because He loves people, and because He wants us to be doing the same—and even greater!! A lot of religious Pharisee-types today will not accept these words from Jesus’ own mouth, “greater works…” Do not allow religious Pharisees, critical-skeptics, doubters, those unbelieving-believers to stop you pursing healing and miracles. Jesus and Peter put them out of the room (Mark 5:23-43; Luke 8:40-55; Acts 9:36-42). Believe the Word of God: “Whoever believes in (Jesus!) will also do the works that (Jesus did!); and greater works than these…”
John 15:16 “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name, He may give it to you.
John 16:23b-24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in My Name, He will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in My Name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
Acts 3:1-10 “Peter and John were going up to the temple… A man lame from birth was… carried (and) laid daily at the gate… to (beg for) alms… Seeing Peter and John… he asked to receive alms. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, ‘Look at us.’ And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, ‘I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!’ And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.”
Act 3:16 “His name—by faith in His Name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.”
*Peter had to answer the religious leaders about the man who was healed in the temple: by faith in the Name of Jesus.
Acts 5:12-16 “Many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s Portico. None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem. And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.”
Acts 8:5-8 “Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did… unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city.”
Acts 9:32-35 “Now as Peter went here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.” And immediately he rose. And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.”
Acts 9:36-42 (Tabitha raised from the dead:) “Now there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, ‘Please come to us without delay.’ So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, ‘Tabitha, arise.’ And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.”
*Peter followed Jesus’ example of putting all those who did not/could not believe for a miracle out of the room, Mark 5:23-43 and Luke 8:40-55.
Acts 10:38 “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.”
*In the same way, God is with anoints His sons and daughters in the New Covenant.
Acts 14:8-10 “Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was crippled from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well, said in a loud voice, ‘Stand upright on your feet.’ And he sprang up and began walking.”
Acts 20:7-12 (Paul raised a young man back to life) “On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight. There were many lamps in the upper room where we were gathered. And a young man named Eutychus, sitting at the window, sank into a deep sleep as Paul talked still longer. And being overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. But Paul went down and bent over him, and taking him in his arms, said, ‘Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.’ And when Paul had gone up and had broken bread and eaten, he conversed with them a long while, until daybreak, and so departed. And they took the youth away alive, and were not a little comforted.” (NIV: they were “greatly comforted.”)
Acts 28:7-9 “Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us and entertained us hospitably for three days. It happened that the father of Publius lay sick with fever and dysentery. And Paul visited him and prayed, and putting his hands on him, healed him. And when this had taken place, the rest of the people on the island who had diseases also came and were cured.”
1Co12:7 “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”
1Cor13:28 “God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.”
James 5:13-16 “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” (NIV: “the prayer of faith will make the sick person well” (5:15), and “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (5:16).)
1Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
3John 1:2 “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.”
Rev 22:1-2 “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the Tree of Life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the Tree were for the healing of the nations.”
*Jesus is the Tree of Life, He’s with you now, ready and willing/wanting to heal
