Stillness, quietness, calmness, are all things rarely experienced in our fast-paced living-life-out-loud world. We think if we are doing nothing there is something wrong with us. We continually seek things, anything, to fill any void of stillness or quietness. Even when we have downtime, we fill it with noise such as our TV’s.
We keep ourselves busy and wrongly value busyness as a virtue. Continual busyness creates noise in our spirit. It clutters our spirit. Brings unrest and even agitation into our spirit.
Taking time to put all the distractions aside allows us to calm ourselves and expectantly wait for God. If doing this is novel, we have become to busy for God. Which is really crazy because every day we can spend quality time with the Creator of the Universe, but don’t because we are too busy.
God, the Creator of the Universe, wants to spend time with us.
God wants to make Himself known to us but He’s not about to burst into the busyness of our lives, loudly demanding we give Him our attention.
If we want to know God, we have to learn stillness and quiet with a frequency that makes room for God in our everyday. Not just make room as in something else to add, but make room as in, give God His rightful place in our lives. Appreciate and value our relationship with Him. Understand the privilege it is. Prioritize Him. This is the only way to go deep with God.
Clearly the virtues are: Stillness. Expectantly Waiting. Quiet. Patient Persistence. Calm.
Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him, Psalm 37:7 AMP.
God, the one and only–I’ll wait as long as He asks… Psalm 62:1 Message.
My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him, Psalm 62:4 AMP.
You are my place of quiet retreat; I wait for your Word to renew me, Psalm 119:114 Message.
So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help, Isaiah 30:18 NLT.
But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired, Isaiah 40:31 AMP.
