Relationships: getter or giver

September 26, 2012

If we are judging our relationships by what we get, or by what we don’t get, we fail miserably. And every time.

Because our focus is wrong.

A preoccupation with what we get from others builds wrong expectation, wrong hope, can create jealous emotion, and even spiral down to controlling and manipulative tendencies. Our relationships will be unhealthy because our focus is ourself. Which is just a revealer that we are unhealthy.

It’s not about what we get or what we don’t get. It’s about what we give.

If we preoccupy ourselves with what we give, we find ourselves in a place of genuinely loving and serving other people. Authentic, life giving relationships start here.

Jesus’ whole life on earth was about what He came to give.
